Course outline
Many of our learners have very low self-esteem and confidence when they start Steps due to their previous educational experience. Our first objective is to change that by providing a safe, open environment. We orientate the first month around setting accessible tasks as we know learners are unlikely to progress if they don’t believe in their own ability to do so.

This programme focuses on preparing our learners for their future pathway, whether continuing with their academic development (college, foundation year, university) or getting them ready for work. As with all of our programmes, development of self-confidence, self esteem, social and communication skills is built in to everything we do.

The transition from school to work or further education can be intimidating for some children. Steps’ summer programme helps bridge the gap by providing work experience and helping learners develop functional skills, life skills, and independence.
We know how important it is for students to feel engaged and socially connected, so we pick fun, practical activities based on their individual preferences.
